Our lab works with multi-scale, multi-physics methods to solve major challenges at the nexus of fluid dynamics, chemical kinetics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and material science. We address critical needs of space exploration, planetary protection (asteroid protection, energy, environment), and national defense. We are an integral part of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Kentucky.

A key objective of the lab is to prepare the members to be leaders in their field. Group members have opportunities to build professional network through conferences, internship opportunities at NASA, Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), other national labs, and industries. They will also work in multi-disciplinary collaborative projects that solve current needs at NASA, Air Force, and Navy allowing opportunities to directly work with scientists and engineers at these agencies.

CTFL welcomes a new member

In Jan 2023, CTFL welcomed its 10th Ph.D. student. Carlos Americo joins the group from Brazil.!
